Hi. I bought a brand new 2009 Honda Civic Sedan 2 months ago.
I have been keeping track of fuel usage. I notice that it is taking 13 liters per 100 km. It claims fuel efficiency of 7.5 liters per 100 km. Is there a break-in time or what? This is worse than my 6-cylinders Camry station wagon.Thanks

This is subjective and YES, there is a break in period. The engine and all moving parts ARE NOT moving as freely as they will after proper break in. Also, the mileage ratings are under ideal conditions which are not the same as real world conditions. In the real world, you drive the car normal AND EVERY DRIVER is DIFFERENT! For mileage statements it is done in a manner to maximize the mileage claims. Does this mean they are lying about mileage statements? No, it merely means that the vehicle is capable of such numbers under optimal conditions.

The best ours gets is 40 mpg on dry, flat pavement going 100kph on cruise. We've had ours for almost a year now. It's not any better than when we got it. It's still better than my old 305 c.i. though.
