still won't run
i changed the steering column in my 1998 gmc sierra it will start but then cuts
right back off i don't have the original steering column anymore but i kept the
key what can i do??someone had mentioned the RFID key but i don't
So you changed the key and tumblers from your old column to the replacement column and it still won't start and run, so if that is the case then it sounds like you missed a connection somewhere on the column connector or they are not there.
no i didn't change the tumblers i just kept the key from the original steering column
Well then there's your problem, you either have to swap the key and tumblers or take it to a dealer and have the security system reprogrammed to the new key and column.
This may be related to the antitheft system The system is known for turning off the starter and/or injectors when it fails. Normally when the injectors are turned off, the car will run for a second or two, and then stall. Is there a light on the dash that says SECURITY or a picture of a car with a lock through it? This is a common problem worth looking into. http://www.diy-gm- security.com/ & http://newrockies.com/
