A/C compressor

Asked by Jul 17, 2017 at 08:55 PM about the 2000 GMC Yukon

Question type: General

I have a 2000 GMC Yukon XL that in the past year, has gone through 3
compressors, This last time, a/c worked great for about a month, then about
2 weeks ago, the rear a/c quit blowing out cold. Now today, the belt broke. I
went to replace it as well as the tensioner (thinking that is what broke the
belt), but the tesioner is fine, but the compressor is froze up... What is going
on with this thing????

Sound like there is quite a bit of contamination in the system. The receiver drier should always be replaced when the system is opened up. The condenser and expansion valve are pinch points for any build up of metal shaving left over from the previous compressor. Most likely a a/c cleaning solvent should be used if/when you decide to repair the system after that a pump down on the system before recharging.
