I'm thinking of buying a 79 Plymouth Volare as a work car. What kind of mileage do these old farts get?

Don't expect much. Even with a slant six and a stick shift, they might- on a good day- get around 23 on the highway; typical slant six/automatic with a perfectly tuned carb maybe 18-19 hwy, and it goes downhill from there.
