I have an 05 Dakota Quad Cab SLT with 3.7L (V6) and it has a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive. When I start excellerating from a stop, the truck RPM shifts smoothly through first two gears then it quickly shifts through third to fourth gear which causes truck to bog down. I have press on gas pedal little harder and it shifts back into third and picks up speed then shift into fourth around 48 mph. Is there any computer program for transmission that can change the RPM shift point in the transmission.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Been told by local Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep dealer that they can not do it.  The truck also has Tow/Haul setup in it.  I do alot of towing, 18 foot RV Trailer, and the quick shifting is causing me to push the engine alot harder that I feel that I should.

I hane a 98 Dakota, and I love it except for the problem you just noted. Plenty of low end power but none in mid range. 40-50 mph. I feel your pain. It is the transmission design, which is sad because the engine has enough power. I know this doesnt help, but please tell me if you found this answer helpful

Hi Oscar! If the dealer says no then I have to side with him. But here's an interesting forum discussion I found about changing shift points through reprogramming. It might at least give you different questions to ask. Hope it helps. Good luck! http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?s=71604b841d3b2e654761ea0fc3af1039&t=94046
