Won't stay started

Asked by Terry May 19, 2017 at 01:55 AM about the 1968 International Harvester Pick-Up

Question type: General

I have a 1968 International Pickup it was running
just fine yesterday and when I turned it off but
something happened I'm not sure what. It will not
start it does have spark and it does have gasoline.
When I turn the key to start it the engine will start
and run as long as the key is in the cranking
position. But as soon as I return the key to the
running position the engine dies.
I replaced the ignition switch but that does no
good. Can somebody please help me with this
problem?

I had a similar issue, what had happened is I had a wire going to my coil that was grounding against the metal wire harness. It would start the engine would idle the wire would rub and kill the engine.
