stuck in reverse

why is my transmission stuck in reverse no matter what gear i put it in it stays in reverse.

Have you checked you linkage? Is it disconnected? When you move gear selector can you see the linkage move? This is where I would check first. You may get lucky and it's just come loose and be an easy fix.

It's a manual transmission isn't it. The shift fork in the transmission is getting worn, it is an easy fix, if you can work on transmissions. Your reverse gear pall has slipped behind the fork. Have your shift fork replaced.
