Did you visually check for coolant circulation through the radiator? Any way you can bleed air from cooling system, if air in system? How hot does the engine get in degrees F? Does the radiator fan run?

yes fan works and it circulates fine... engine gets all the way to red.. but it doesn't overheat if it's sitting in idle or park just when driving

You may have to check for combustion gases in the coolant, that may point to a head gasket issue? So if the heat isn't working, can you check for circulation through the heater core?
