2002 ford focus charging problem

Asked by Aaron Oct 14, 2015 at 02:09 AM about the 2002 Ford Focus

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 ford focus with 84k on it. Battery is 6 months old, and testing
good. I have installed 2 alternators in the last week and replaced the battery
cables. Still not getting good voltage, it goes from 12.3 to 13 when the car
turns on. Battery light stays on, gauges go crazy turning off and on

Thanks shoes! Im not getting a check engine light though... I'll swing by the parts store and see if they can get a code off it.

These cars have what is called a 'Smart Charge" system where the voltage regulator is split between the Alternator and the PCM. It would bee best if the system was tested with Ford's IDS Test Equipment to identify the exact problem
