Why did IGNITION LOCK UP?

Asked by Guru9RFV5P Aug 16, 2022 at 07:30 PM about the 2006 Cadillac SRX

Question type: General

Was recently given this 2006 Cadillac SRX by elderly relative who can no
longer drive.  Has literally been parked in condo garage for 8 years, has only
37K miles.  Still trying to learn how things work, but it has been a dream to
drive.  Today, not so much.  I came out of store, unlocked car with remote,
opened liftgate, loaded my groceries into back.  Closed liftgate, slipped into
the driver seat, put key into ignition and turned it.  Lights all came on for a
second, then went dark.  Engine didn't start, and I could not remove the key
from ignition.  Looked around for operator's manual but had left it at home,
along with my cell phone.  So I couldn't leave the car, and could neither start
it nor phone for help.  What happened?

Sounds like the security system might have engaged, or the battery power died from a bad battery or even bad battery connections, best to call a mobile mechanic or if you have towing insurance have it towed to you favorite shop.

Yup, dead battery or bad battery cable connections. Many vehicles, especially GMs will not let you remove the key from the ignition with a dead battery. Hope that helps! Jim
