What is the value of a well maintained 16v 1987 VW Scirocco with less than 60,000 miles on it?

I went through this a few years ago when my son was rear- ended in his 87 Scirocco 16v and the insurance tried to give us $800! I canvassed Craigslist far and wide...Autotrader, Ebay, Cars.com...and similar low-mileage cars were going for 3- 4 grand..pristine ones were $7k. If you've found one in great shape with that few miles, I would imagine the offer should start at $3k.

I not only have found one I own one with that low milage and in pristine condition (no rust, A-! interior) and with all service records. Never got to drive it much in a sustained way as I used my company Navigator. I have heard the myth that it might be worth 7K but don't know who would pay that. I was thinking of asking 5K.
