My 1971 MGB's Speedometer and Mile ometer have stopped working

Yep, broken cable. Unscrew it from the back of the speedometer. Pull the cable out of the sheath. Replace it one of he same length. Since it's broken - be sure to remove both parts. There used to be universal kits that you cut to fit.

Put in an original replacement cable, they're cheap to buy and a lot less messing about than a universal one you cut to fit. I think Moss does them for about 10 pound including VAT.
