Replaced rear main seal on 1996 Ford Explorer 4.0L V6 with 250,000+ miles. Which type of oil should I use based on the mileage?

If you haven't been using synthetic then don't start, stick with conventional oil, if you have been using synthetic then stay with that. Once you start using synthetics you should not go back to conventional as oil leaks have been know too start showing up soon after the switch back.

I would keep using what you have been using. I like Ford Motorcraft Synthetic blend and have used it for years. It is fairly priced at Walmart. I also use Motorcraft filters on my Mercury and Lincoln.
