Pathfinder keeps down shifting out of overdrive. Could this be a solenoid?

When I'm driving at about 55 to 60 mph the trans will go from overdrive to third
and back.

That is most likely a symptom of a burnt/worn overdrive band. To replace you need to disassemble the transmission, so a rebuild is in your future. Also consider a newer vehicle.
