1986 Ford Club Wagon- problem with battery bracket

I'm trying to change the battery on my van and there is a bracket which is
making it difficult. The bracket attaches to the van frame and the battery hold
down. I removed the hold down but the bracket is still in the way. Should I
detach it from the frame? Please see photo.

It looks like you may be able to bend it jus enough out of the way to get the battery out
