2000 dodge stratus

I got this car free and it doesn't have a gas cap my
mom told me it was a self sealing one but I think
she is messing with me so do I or do I not need to
buy a gas cap

You need a gas cap for the EVAP system to work properly. Without it the CEL will probably be on.
