Change transmission fluid in an old car?

Asked by Bill Dec 18, 2016 at 11:56 AM about the 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1965 Mustang with an automatic transmission. I want to change the
transmission fluid, but I'm reading conflicting information about whether or not
it is a good idea; essentially that it can disrupt the natural balance of things by
cleaning out residue. Any thoughts?
The transmission fluid level is low after replacing the radiator, so at a minimum
I need to add some, which would be mixng new fluid with old.

Change it, but make sure the correct fluid is used on the refill.

New fluid won't hurt anything so change it and the filter if there is one.
