Fuel pump

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have a 2010 ford f150 with the 5.4 liter. The truck will
either start and you can drive it a short distance and will
die. You can get under the truck and slap the tank a few
times and it starts right back up. Any thoughts on it being
the pump or something else?

Classic signs of a bad fuel pump.

I'm wondering if there is a fuel pump relay that might be at fault, too.
When you replace the pump, check for debris in the gas tank. If so, then you are buying cruddy gas and pumping the debris into your tank and it is fouling up the fuel system. You will need to replace your fuel line filters. If possible, remove the tank and rinse it out with gasoline. It's a dangerous job, and not something you want to do at home. In the future, I recommend keeping the tank over half full and not buying the cheapest grade from the cheapest station.
