How do I remove the center console cup holder in my Lexus RX350?

Asked by houalbie Jan 27, 2015 at 02:33 AM about the 2010 Lexus RX 350 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The cup holder door won't open all the way.  I think something slid down between the
door and side of cup holder (I think it was an earring) . I want to remove it. Can anyone
show me a video or give good instructions on how to do this?

My Ipod ended up in the same place, it's kicking my butt trying to get at it without breaking anything.

It seems that the screws holding in the plastic covering over the cup holder loosens over time and falls into the space forward of the opening creating a stop when opening or closing. Eventually the screws fall off but it leaves the plastic piece unattached to the metal section holding everything together there. I haven't yet figured out how to take it apart to put the screw back in. So, the plastic covering is off and I just don't close the cover for the cup holder. Stays open because it is rather unsightly. A replacement for the whole console costs around $600 at the dealership. I have all the pieces but figure they'll just try to sell me on a whole new console instead of trying to fix it.

The answer is more simple than I thought: simply pull the cup holder unit straight up. The cupholder is simply pressure fitted into the center console. Grasp from the inside (perhaps the assistance of a friend would help) and pull straight up. It pops right out. I have a 2007 Lexus GX 470.

Gurublkgk, your answer is the only one that actually tells what to do. Thank you. Pull from the rear then slide back. Remove the gear shift handle and slide console off. 5 screws on the underside hold the cupholder.

GuruBLKZK - I read your answer and was able to get the pen out from under the lid that was keeping the lid from sliding back into spot. Thanks!!!

Picture - pull from back - straight up. Then pull down and back to get it off the front attachment. Remove (twist) the knob on the shifter. And then you can turn the whole console upside down and shake out the crap. Earned about 1.25 in coins on top of fixing the door.

2015 RX350 Shifter to neutral than turn car off. Remove shift knob by unscrewing. Pull up and out on console. Work console upside down. Unscrew 6 screws that hold cupholder in place and take loose to clean. Reassemble in reverse order.
