the car engine makes a knocking noise when it start

If the knocking sound last for only a few seconds, engine oil is circulating and it takes time for it to complete. This is a sign of worn bearings and/or a failing oil pump/regulator. If the knocking continues, you should have the engine diagnosed; it might be time to think about a replacement.
