4wheel drive 2007 Ford explorer Sport Trac

Asked by Jul 01, 2019 at 06:32 AM about the 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. When the
vehicle is placed in 4 wheel drive, there is a popping
sound in the front end but only when I make a turn,
left or right. It continues for just a bit when I
straighten out, but then goes away. When I take the
vehicle out of 4 wheel drive, there is no noise at all.
My suspicion has to do with the housing on the
front end where the 4 wheel drive engages the front
drive shaft. Any ideas, or is this definitely
something for the shop, as I have not done this
kinda work on my vehicle before.
