Dual fuel tanks and relay

My husband picked up the van from the repair shop and it ran great for about 15 minutes.  When he hit the switch to change fuel tanks, it ran about a minute and died.  It would not start again.  He ran a wire from the battery to the fuel relay and was able to start it.  What could be the problem and how do we fix it?

what he should di is take it back to the shop,if that iwas the problem they worked on.,the switch for tanks could be bad,check ecm fuse.

I had the same problem where my F 150 ( which I have had for 10 years now) has the same set up. A) I would definitely switch out my tank selector switch ( DON'T go to parts store and waste $20 on a fuel tank relay switch). go to a local junk yard and get one ( i just found 3 in the same jy and made sure that each truck was not only 92 to 96 but also had a dual tank set up. the schematics are the same. B) Keep up on general maint on your car and buy a new pump every 5 to 7 years ( parts geek). I would then drop the tank and change it out myself ( there are about 10 screws on top of tank to take out). Pull out hangar and change pump. While tank is out, it might be a real good idea to either clean tank out or buy another. the LAST thing you need is chemical debris in your gas line ( not all filters can be trusted). And then remember after you put your tank back in place to put your fuel relay back in position to drain off excess fuel in line that didn't make it to the block . Good luck.
