2004 Volvo XC70 transmission issue
My transmission was shifting sporadically
so I checked the fluid level and it indicated
way to high a level . I then checked the
engine oil level which showed low oil level,
last week it was normal and the car has
never burned or dropped oil and the level
has always been consistent between
changes. My question is, can motor oil be
leaking into the transmission and what
would it cost to have repaired?
No they can't mix. Are you checking the trans fluid correctly? It will read high if you check it cold and the engine off. The engine needs to be warmed up, driven for 15mins. Park the car on a level surface and with the engine running, you pull the trans dipstick, wipe and reinsert, then check. I always check my motor oil when the engine is cold and keep the level near the upper hashmark.
