estimate cost of removing and replacing control arm, also can I drive until it's fixed

the mechanic said I need to remove and replace automatic trans lower right side for over $800 on my toyota corolla 2000. Is this about right? Can I drive before fixing?

ask your mechanic if you can drive it. We don't know the extend of the damage. Why are they replacing the control arm? Is it bent or broken? If so , I wouldn't drive it.
