Service engine soon & interior lights flash

Asked by Apr 29, 2017 at 10:41 AM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, and last night we
were driving to get some food and the interior
lights stayed on for a few minutes, and then turned
back on a couple minutes later. This process
repeated itself until we arrived back.home and shut
the car off. My service engine light also came on a
couple days ago. Is it possible these are
connected? We thought it was an air filter so I
changed that first because it had been a while, and
then the lights started turning on.

The interior lights turning on might be a faulty door ajar switch. The CEL means there is a fault code stores. You can scan the car for the 4 digit OBDii codes. Have a local auto part store do it for free or have your mechanic look it over. Post the codes back here for further help.
