Shifting at high speeds?

Asked by Feb 19, 2017 at 12:39 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So while driving on the freeway i notice a weird shifting patteren. I will be
cruising at 80 and be at around 2600ish RPMs. if i completely let off gas
and reengage, i will then be doing 80 at 3500ish RPMs. Same result if i try
to accelerate to fast. Hasnt seemed to cause any issues. Other than its
annoying.
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

By removing your foot from the accelerator you're releasing the TCC (Torque Converter Clutch) in the transmission. It should lock in again after you reach cruising speed again and the RPMs should drop again. HTH. -Jim
