Sounds like the engine has developed a valve tap and the knock sensor is picking up on it. Is it running hotter than normal as well? If so, that's definitely what's going on. The knock sensor is like a microphone. It listens for spark/knock and pinging. When spark/knock or pinging occur the knock sensor sends a signal to the PCM (computer). The PCM then retards the ignition timing until the spark/knock or pinging stops. In the case of a valve tap that the knock sensor is "hearing" the PCM severely retards the ignition timing. This causes loss of power and the engine to run hot. The only way to fix it is to quiet down the valve tap. It could be a sticking lifter or worn valve train component. You can try a product called Rislone. One of the guys at work swears by it to quiet down a valve tap. It's available at your local auto parts store. HTH. -Jim
