I have a 2005 Lexus gx 470. The alternator had gone out, I tried to jump it and noticed smoke coming from alternator. Replaced alternator and now there is zero power in my vehicle. What could be wrong

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

It has charged for over 20 minutes with new alternator and the dome
light or dash lights won't even turn on. Is it possible the computer is
fried?

If you don't jump a 21st Century car JUST RIGHT, you will blow out delicate little electrical circuits- usually diodes in the alternator- this is historic- I advise people to just lose the battery cables and get a AAA membership and a good mechanic- avoid the self-inflicted destruction-

It's funny that you mention aaa. They are the ones that towed it to my house but they had jump started it and smoked the alternator to get it on the tow truck. I found this out after I had jumped it myself.
