2005 silverado 1500 crew cab 4x4 5.3L transmission

Asked by Sep 09, 2017 at 06:11 AM about the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Crew Cab Short Bed 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had a transmision line leak that I didn't know
about, one weekend I parked truck on a Friday
everything was normal when I parked it
transmission was operating just fine, then on
Sunday decided to go to store when I pulled out of
drive everything was normal until I reached the
speed of about 25 to 35 mph it didn't shift, rpms
started getting higher and when I hit 40 with truck
winding out I let my foot off Gas and back on gas it
shifted and with this technique was able to drive it
normally even on freeway (I didn't have money to
have truck looked at or fixed at that time due to
loosing my job and starting up my Handyman
business) well I'm now in the position to have it
repaired but don't want to take to shop and be
charged a arm and a leg, I'm pretty handy and can
replace transmission if need be, my question is as
time has gone by its gotten worse it will only shift
once and reach top speed of 50 my question is the
transmision shot? Could something else be wrong?
Truck always smells like trans fluid when done
driving though nothing is leaking anymore. Thanks
in advance for your help.
