Truck shutting off in the middle of driving

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

was driving my 2003 chevy silverado down the hi-
way going 70mph and it just shuts off. I pulled over
thinking I was out of gas because the instrument
cluster stopped working about 3 weeks ago, I had
it replaced with a used one that the plexi glass was
broken out and later that day the replaced
instrument cluster started acting up and not
showing activate gauge readings. Well,  I kept my
eye on the gauges and it seemed to be operating
correctly,  so I went in a emergency road trip.
Coming back is when the truck just turned off
going down the hi-way. I put some gas in it and
managed to get it to a town just a couple of miles
away.  It took a few times of it stalling to get it to
town.  A friend came and started it right up and
reeved it up but when he let it idle it died and now it
cranks but won't start, the gauges don't move and
the light where it shows the gears do not light up.
Do you know what could be wrong?
