Even with limited or no credit history, you can get a car loan. Get a free credit report. Make sure it's accurate. The dealers will look at the same info when you apply. Prepare a workable budget. Keep in mind, banks want to see you living at or below 40%, of your income. Housing, credit cards, student loans, and any other reported debts, should be at or below 40% of your income. The car you purchase should fit into that budget as well (car payment and insurance). Besides you and your budget, the other big factor is the cost of the car vs it's loan value. Especially for someone who has no credit history, the bank needs some cushion for the risk. Look for a deal on the cars that fit into your 40% budget. If you can, try to get one that you can finance around 75% of it's retail value. This may require a little money down, but it's worth it if you can. Better interest rates, lower payoff. If you are strapped for cash, and don't have the money to put much of a down payment on it...try to get something as new as possible, with low to no miles. Sounds odd, but with only a little money down, you are more likely to be approved for a 2017 Chevy Cruze Eco, with 2500 miles for $15000, than you are for that same Cruze as a 2014, with 60,000, for $8995. Less than 2 years old, and under 15,000 miles, and a car priced under it's value, is usually what it takes for little money down.
