How can a strut come loose after 12000 miles.

Asked by Lagringa Jul 31, 2007 at 06:16 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was told by the origial shop that that was unususl for that to happen due to having locking washers ect......  Is this a common problem or did the shop not torque the bolts down??
I am hoping that they compensate us for the problems occured!
I am going to the shop now.

It is possible that the strut worked itself loose. I have seen brand new cars with struts loose at 5-6k miles come through the dealership. Struts typically have a lifespan of 12-15k miles and you will want to inspect them yourself at this interval to insure continued safe operation.
