have I to remove the engine when I want to change the head gasket o the valve cover gasket?
You didn't state what year, some years you can do it with the engine in place, others you can't. I did my full size van a number of years back with the engine in place but I found that doing the Aerostr it was eaiser to drop the engine and carriage assembly right out the bottom. HTH
An e-sieries won't has a cradle to drop. Valve covers should be doable no matter the engine. I don't see head gaskets being done on a diesel in the van. A gas might be possible. It's no easy task either way.
That's right Andrew, I had to pull the engine out the front, not an easy task even back then.
On an 80's and early 90's diesel Ford van, you can do the heads and head gaskets with the engine in the bay: http://www.nickpisca.com/diesel/engine/1988-e250-van-7-3-idi-head- gasket-job-without-pulling-the-engine/
