can gas in the oil be caused by the carberator?i
I have a 1974 Beetle. Just had the starter and carburetor replaced. It ran fine for a couple of days, then started to leak oil. Started it yesterday, it ran rough for a few minutes then shut off. A lot of oil dropped out under the car from that couple of minutes and the dipstick is full of oil gas mixture. Is it the old fuel pump by chance or did the shop do something when installing the carb that is causing this problem?
You need to return to the mechanic NOW and have him find out if he damaged something during the repair. No, this isn't normal and wouldn't be an affect from the work described. An oil leak that severe and fuel in the oil could be from an intake gasket improperly installed, but this wouldn't have been done if it was just the carburetor replacement.
