03 impala bucking wildly after repairs
03 Impala, 3.8L engine.
Problems started with systematic cooling system failure. (Classic coolant
elbow failure) car driven with constant coolant loss and replacement, and
Radiator cracked at upper hose. Family put pepper in system per mechanic
advice to attempt to slow leaks until repair could be afforded/time to work on.
I started digging.
Pulled radiator, replaced.
New upper radiator hose (we happened to have one)
New water pump (also happened to have)
New lower intake manifold (old one pitted and failing)
New lower intake gaskets
New coolant elbows
Cleaned all surfaces for elbows and gaskets for proper seal.
Upper intake (plenum) appears ok, gaskets in good shape (replaced plenum
and gaskets last year)
Had to remove power steering pump to replace water pump, 2 bolts out, 2
bolts in. Tightened
Alternator removed and reinstalled during process of getting to intake
New O-rings on fuel injectors, since they were out.
Everything installed, tightened, double checked, all wiring re-installed and
Serpentine belt verified routed correctly. Coolant dumped into radiator.
Start engine, and it will "run" for a very short time, but engine bucks wildly,
serpentine belt bounces highly abnormally, all pulleys seem secure, no play I
can see. Chirping sound from pulley side, not sure which pulley. But then the
engine violently quits. Can still turn over and start, but something is very much
not right. And I don't know where to start.
