Air conditioning

Asked by Guru19VLL Aug 18, 2019 at 07:41 PM about the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my truck runs fine when air isnt on. About 5
minutes after turning the ac on it starts doing a
number of things. First thing is that it is very slow
to accelerate. You can basically push the pedal to
the floor and it just wont accelerate like normal. It
will do this for about 10 seconds and then out of
no where, it accelerates like a rocket and becomes
very boggy. I've also noticed that it uses an
extreme amount of gas when it's in this stage.
When I turn the ac off it will remain in this stage for
a long time, couple of days on occasion. Wired
thing is if I get up to 45mph and turn ac on it will
not go into its frenzy unless I come to a complete
stop with the ac on. If I turn it on any about 45 mph
and turn it off before stop the truck runs normal.
Idk, any thoughts.

yes, get the filter/dryer changed and Fresh refrigerant put in~ maintenance on the air conditioning, seasonally but ran my Toyota truck for 18 years without touchin' it~ but GM uses "Frigidaire" or some such American maker of refrigeration units~ foreign ones cannot be trusted~ that excessive force is unequal refrigerant pressures~ get it serviced, won't cost that much~

there is a "sightglass" on the refrigerant return line, to show you if it's got little bubbles or pieces of desiccant, you must get a new filter/dryer~
