Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I need to push the clutch down more than usual to shift the gears. The
mechanic said it may have been a hydraulic problem but I'm not too sure

That is just a sign that the clutch is worn down best to get checked to see how much time is left on clutch before having to replace.

And also if it is a hydraulic clutch system have the clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder checked to make sure they are not leaking if not leaking most likely a worn clutch.
