VW bug 1973 heat

Asked by Sep 08, 2017 at 12:37 PM about the 1973 Volkswagen Beetle

Question type: General

is there any type of heat in the 1973 bug and if there is is it enough to defrost
the window and keep the driver warm

1 Answer

That was the problem with those air coolers, just not enough heat when it got cold, back then they made a gasoline fired heater that was plumbed into the heater system, my Dad had one put in his square back back in 1968. So these days I doubt if you can still find any of those around. What in my last bug is bought a small electric heater that I put on the car at night on low that kept in inside warm enough to keep the ice off the windows and then I used one of the 12 volt electric defroster guns if the Windows started fogging while driving. Those are defently not a cold weather vehicle especially if it drops down into single digit temps. HTH
