A/T won't go into reverse

Asked by GuruCKT26 Feb 27, 2019 at 11:18 AM about the 1996 Dodge RAM 1500

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 1500 (2WD) that won't go into reverse....well It will
shift into reverse, I feel a tiny bump so I know it is engaging, but it rolls like its in
neutral! I recently had a new water pump, poer steering pump, and serpentine
belt installed ( not sure if this is relevant) but I didn't have transmission
problems before.

Often, low trans fluid level will cause this. If it's a mechanical problem, it could be the reverse clutch or the control solenoid. Check fluid and if OK, see a transmission pro.
