97 F150 4.6 V8 Issues

Asked by GuruPDK7Y Jan 13, 2020 at 11:27 PM about the 1997 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So lately Ive noticed a loud pop that almost
sounds like a backfire. It sounds like it's
coming from the driver side. Idk. And it's
only when I accelerate. It's random too. Not
when I turn or anything, only when
accelerating. Since that started, I've noticed
a significant loss of power. The engine will
really be reving high, just to get to 55 mph.
Which seems like it's not shifting then, until I
let off the gas. It has had a miss since I
bought it. I've been told the shop couldn't get
the spark plug out. But it's ran perfect with
that miss for over a year. So any ideas what
the popping and loss of power is?
