71 ford f250 burning wire on solenoid I post? Starter engages and turns engine but no spark at plugs

Asked by Nov 30, 2017 at 01:44 PM about the 1971 Ford F-250

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

4 post frame solenoid. Engine had been starting.
Fixed some bent rods and disconnected coil so I
could check rods and valves by turning engine. All
good so reconnected coil and had no spark.
Replaced coil and still no spark but now noticed
wire smoking. I post wire. So is solenoid bad or
something else?
