1998 Toyota camry
I NEED HELP - SERIOUS CHALLENGE.
Hi everyone. So I have a 1998 Toyota Camry.
Not 3 days after I pulled off the car lot and it broke
down. Problem - my mechanic can't figure out
what is wrong. The timing belt replaced, he tried a
new distributor and said it would not start at all.
What happens is, it runs great then just stops.
He's hooked it up to the sensor machine and
nothing pops up after he changed timing belt. So
now I'm back to the beginning. It runs great and
while I am driving it just quits. Several towns and a
mile walk in 100° heat later- 2 mechanics have not
been able to figure it out. TO NO FAULT OF THEIR
The guys also said there are a ton of new parts on
it, as if prior owner was chasing the same problem
and that once they figure this out it'll be a great car.
Please, anyone, I just need something to go right.
Ever have a year like that?
One of the leading causes of sporadic shut down in a car that's twenty years old is a defective ignition switch. It's just a set of electrical contacts that can get corroded or damaged with time. Next time this happens, restart. If it restarts normally, that's where I'd first look.
