Transmission or speed sensor

Asked by Angel Jan 24, 2020 at 10:02 AM about the 2004 Suzuki Verona

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our check engine light came on last week, so we
took it back to the place we bought it from, less
than 6 months ago, less than 3000 miles ago. First
they said it was the speed sensor, then they told us
it was the transmission and we needed a new one.
We spent $500 on a used transmission, but our
vehicle only had 73000 miles on it. I picked it up
yesterday and last night the check engine light
came back on, so I called them and they said it
was probably still the speed sensor. They gave me
the wrong impression last week, I thought that they
fixed and got the part for the speed sensor before
they figured out it was the transmission. Did we
just get taken for $500?
