Shifter problems

Question type: General

I was driving the other night everything was
fine I pulled into the store put it in first gear
heard a pop and now my stick is all loose
will go up and down not side to side I'm
stuck in first gear can push it if clutch is in
can drive it in first but that's it can't change
gears now my car is at work and outside can
anyone help me with this problem if there is
a quick fix I can do to at least get it home or
is it something I can fix right there I took
have my Inner console apart can see a little
inside where the shifter is can't really see
anything that is not right any help at all
would be greatly appreciated I have a 2002
Pontiac Grand am 4 cylinder 5 speed and I
have a hydraulic system

Since I'm not there, I would say there is no quick fix. Have it towed to your mechanic who can get it up on the lift to inspect what broke.
