Why won't my car start?!

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought this car from an old friend about a
month ago and now my car won't start for some
reason my brother and mom keep telling me they
think my engine has locked up on me my battery is
perfectly fine as far as that part goes but my car
just won't crank we've tried it a boost off but that
didn't work i was think that my starter went out but
idk honestly. What do you think it is?

Try hitting the starter a few times with a hammer. If that gets you going it's definitely the starter. Switch on the headlights and try to start it. Do they stay nice and bright when you turn the key? If so it still could be the starter or possibly the neutral safety switch. Try starting it in neutral. Also, try moving the shifter through all the gear positions a few times quickly. Then try to start it. If that gets you going it's the neutral safety switch. If the headlights dim badly or go out when you try to start it it's the battery or a bad battery cable connection. Hope that helps! Jim
