Asked by GuruNTZL9 Oct 18, 2019 at 06:57 PM about the 2002 Lincoln Continental

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The transmission in the car will not go into the next gear. I went through the
light and realized that the car had not gone to the next hear and the trannie light
came on.
Any ideas

would suspect the linkage is mal-adjusted, or perhaps the transmission mounts are out of whack~ not too familiar with Lincoln/mercury do know that Ford transmissions sometimes become unreliable~ so check to make sure the level is correct, with the engine running and the handbrake set, in park or neutral~ also be sure the lines to the transmission are not injured and leakin'~

Fluid level may be low. that can happen if tranny cooling lines leak. You have to check tranny fluid with engine/tranny warmed up (15, 20 min), then shift through all gears, then check fluid with engine running and in park.
