1996 Jeep Cherokee trouble starting
Weirdest issue. Daughters Jeep starts 50%
of the time just fine. The other 50% requires
you to pop the hood OR pop the hood and
slam it to get it to start. Has been to Jeep
couple times where they claim loose
connection, they do their thing - week later it
acts back up. We need to send her back to
college with it fixed - Ideas??
Jarring repair seems to point to a short in the system, like a loose cable. But it might be something else that's loose and it might not be easy to find. Devices have internal wiring and there are wires and fuses that can come loose or corrode in a thirteen year old car. Next time this happens, don't slam the hood; tow the car to an independent shop (hopefully that wont cause a jarring repair) and you'll probably find a mechanic who cares more about you. He'll check the system one fuse at a time and should be able to narrow it down. This might take a lot of time and become quite costly. Or you could bone up on car repair, get a multi-meter, and do it yourself. It's really not that difficult, but will probably be time consuming.
