Strange engine sound

Asked by Chufu Dec 26, 2019 at 05:06 PM about the 2012 Volkswagen Passat

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 1.8TSI VW Passat. I have noticed that when it reaches full operating temperature it starts to sound little like a diesel when on idle (i can hear it inside). Is there a problem with the engine? It has 71000 miles done and I did the full service at the VW garage 2 months ago and they did not notice anything unusual but reading forums it looks like cam belt tensioner?

did the temperature go hot on ya? have little experience wtih TSI's but you might check the compression and the condition of the spark plugs, this will tell ya~ would show detonation, or oil burning~ buy a Toyota for little trouble~
