Any clues? car not used for 18 months, battery flat,Difficulty jump starting. When driven, lots of indicators flashed and engine died. Connecting new battery caused headlights and horn to operate.

The old battery did have a shorted cell, but the new one does not allow me to start the car. I have full voltage between the negative terminal of the battery and the negative wiring....So, is there a major short somewhere in the system?
