wont start

Question type: General

I had this 1974 travelall with a 392 (72,000 original miles)it has a new edlebrock carb on it,  for 3 months and all was good, started and ran perfect anytime. we drove it for 4 days at cruising the coast and one evening we pulled up to the red light and it was like the key was turned off. It was getting gas and fire! I hauled it back home and replaced the pickup coil, the coil, the capacitor on the coil, the main electrical box. still would not start. BUT, sometimes it could sit for a week and it would start right up. so I thought the ignition switch on the column (chevy style). so I got a new one and before changing it, I ran the battery almost down trying to start it. so I removed the column cover and replaced the ignition switch. STARTED UP!!! several times while I was laying in the floor ready to put it back together. Put the cover back on and all my tools up...........would not start!@#$!!! Put the battery charger on it and turned and turned and cranked on it for a while and every now and then it would sputter and it finally cranked!! and I drove it around no problem. the next day it would not crank again but I spun and spun and pumped the gas and it would spit and sputter and finally crank. The other day I could not get it to do anything so I just gave up. it gets gas and fire. Now remember it ran and cranked EVERY time for 3 months perfectly!! when whatever happened, it was like you just turned the key off. I need help!!!!! has anyone experienced this before? I have not moved the timing. when it cranks it runs great, no heating issue and even has A/C.

Thanks in advance
